Equity, diversity, inclusion

An inclusive and inspiring environment

We firmly believe that a workplace that respects differences and values diversity is a fertile ground for innovation and excellence in research. That’s why we value the unique backgrounds of each member of our team – whether academic, professional or personal – and are committed to creating an environment where everyone can flourish.

Our core values

  • Respect and openness: An environment where everyone’s ideas, perspectives and experiences are welcomed and valued.
  • Honesty: We move forward with integrity, recognizing that learning and continuous improvement are part of the process.
  • Creativity: We encourage innovation and original thinking in our research and its dissemination.

Concrete actions for tangible results

When it comes to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), we must walk the talk. We don’t want to limit ourselves to statistics or symbolic initiatives. Our action plan is therefore built around concrete actions, guided by a specialized EDI coordinator and supported by the active commitment of the principal investigator.

  • Axis 1: Inclusive environment and personal development

We have put in place a welcome guide for newcomers to the lab, a lab charter, and financial support for members from equity-seeking groups or from the Global South. We are also planning to make a workplace climate survey.

  • Axis 2: EDI skills and awareness

We organize EDI training courses for lab members and accessible, of a part, to the rest of the department. We also have begun to develop flexible training tools. We plan to disseminate EDI knowledge in research, for example with a recurring column on best practices and participation in educational events.

  • Axis 3: Inclusive research and knowledge mobilization

We share our discoveries with a larger public through conferences (e.g. https://sites.google.com/view/cinq-a-science/). We’ll be taking part in workshops for the very young, and hope to set up innovative artistic educational projects such as comic strips and video games. We also plan to explore the links between our research topics and indigenous communities and cultures.

Together, we are transforming our values into concrete actions to build inclusive and innovative research.
